  Site Description
Pari island complex is a group of small coral atoll islands, with a total area of about 12 km² which is the largest island in the complex, Kongi island, Tengah island, Burung island, and Tikus island. Two large lagoons occur in the complex i.e. Soa Besar lagoon and Labangan Pasir lagoons. The islands are surrounded by well developed fringing reef with prominent shingle banks on the northeast rim. Suryodinoto (1968) and Goding (1969) classified the Pari Island complex as pseudo atoll because of two existing deep lagoons surrounded by fringing reef. Most of the islands is covered by mangrove vegetation. In Pari island, mangrove vegetation fringes the island, while in other islands, mangrove vegetation covers most of the islands. The waters in the Pari island complex is calm, with a tidal fluctuation of about 1 m. To the seaward side of the islands (±100m), sandflats occur. In some area, sandflats are covered by seagrass beds. Seagrasses grow in the intertidal zone of the reef flat down to the depth of 2m. The dominant species in the intertidal zone which is exposed during low tide is Thalassia hemprichii, while Enhalus acoroides is dominant in the deeper area and never being exposed during low tide. The fringing reef of the islands is well developed. Coral may found in depth of 20 metres on the reef slope. Coral grow well in depth between 3 to 10 metres. Principal vegetation: Mangal communities include Rhizophora stylosa (confined to sandy beaches), Bruguiera spp., Sonneratia acida, Sonneratia alba, Rhizophora mucronata, Aegiceras sp.
