Site Description

A large mountain ridge. The western, southern and eastern slopes drop off into the sea. At the south-east it is bordered by the Bibinoi peninsula and in the north it is bordered by an alluvial palin. Here the vegetation consists of cultivation (up to the altitude of 100m)
Principal vegetation: Mangal communities with Bruguiera gymnorrhiza, Ceriops tagal, Sonneratia alba, Rhizophora spp., Corallia brachiata.
Part of the island (23,024 ha) is the Gunung Sibela Nature Reserve. The reserve contains spring water that runs through several streams. The reserve has many values:
Fauna: Macaca nigra, Lorius garrulus, Eclectus roratus, Cicinnurus regius, Eos bornea, Cacatua alba and Eos squamata.
Flora: Pometia pinnat, Vitex cofassus, Antocephalus macrophyllus, orchids. |

To get to the island:
Ambon-Ternate by air about 2 hours or by KM Kerinci about 18 hours; then Ternate-Bacan by boat about 8 hours.Or
Ambon-Bacan/labuha by plane (every Monday and Thursday) 2.5 hours. |
