Site Description

An estuary in a relatively flat area. The area represents one of the largest remaining examples of the swamp habitats of the north coast of Java. Most of the vegetation consists of mangrove forest. Large areas have been reclaimed for fish ponds and agricultural land. Only 1,000 ha of mangrove forest remains in good health, located near the Cimanuk river. The tidal variation is 0.5 - 1m.
Principal vegetation: Rhizophora mucronata, Rhizophora conjugata, Avicennia sp., Bruguiera parviflora, Bruguiera gymnorrhiza, Sonneratia alba, Sonneratia acida, Aegiceras corniculatum, Ceriops candoleana, Oncosperma filamentosa, Excoecaria agallocha. |
