This area consists of an extensive fringe of mangroves, and some remaining peatswamp after most was recently reclaimed. The mangrove covers an area of approximately 10,000 ha. Tidal variation is 2 - 2.5 m.
In 1984 more than 2,000 migratory waders were counted. The area holds few large waders. The mangrove forest is important as breeding and nursery area for many fish and shell-fish species.
Principal vegetation: Mangrove and peatswamp forest. |
