Site Description

Four small vegetated coral islands connected by a reef, and to the south a fith low island without vegetation surrounded by another reef. The islands are important nesting and roosting sites of seabirds, including Greater Crested Terns. There are important turtle nesting beaches of Green Turtles Chelonia mydas, Greater Crested Terns nest on Pulau Selatan, Kepulauan Penyu and on the fifth bare island. Turtles are hunted and in June 1981 about 30,000 eggs of Greatest Crested Tern (and possibly also of other tern species) were collected an sold in Ambon (de Korte). |
