Site Description

The main topographical features of Morotai island are the mountain ridge, and the flat southern tip and flat south-west part. There are many fast flat flowing rivers. Along the coast there are scattered mangrove patches situated behind the beach formations. The Wayabula proposed Game Reserve (45,000 ha) is situated on the island, including some of its swamp forests.
Principal vegetation: Bruguiera spp., Rhizophora conjugata, Sonneratia acida, Carallia brachiata, Terminalia catappa, Vatica papuana.
This site is considered important form waterbirds (Zieren et al, 1994) |
