  Site Description  
  The Karimun Jawa island group consists of 27 small islets, of which Karimun Jawa is the largest. Only seven island are inhabitated. The total area of The Karimun Jawa approximately 111,625 ha that contains 7,033 ha of inland and 104,592 ha of territorial waters. The vegetation consits mainly of mangrove and beach forest, and some lowland rain forest on Karimun Jawa. The principal vegetation : - Mangrove : Bruguiera spp., Ceriops, Aegiceras, Xilocarpus, Excoccaria, Lumnitzera, Sonneratia, Heriteria and Rhizophora spp. - Beach forest : Terminalia cattapa (ketapang), Casuarina equisetifolia (cemara laut), Cocos nucifera (kelapa), Scaerota frustescens (jati pasir), Strebus asper (setigi) and Hibiscus tilliaceus (waru laut). - Lowland Rain Forets : Fragraea elliptica (dewodaru)and Kalimosodo Coral reef ecosystem in Karimun Jawa have three type are fringing reefs, barrier reef and patch reef. But most of the islands are surrounded by fringing reefs. This ecosystem have high diversity with more than 90 species from 45 genus of coral, 242 coral reef fishes species and 12 spesies in protected status. Seaweeds (algae)are found in all islands until 20 m in depth. The diversity of seaweeds are Chrolophyta (genus Caulerpa and Halimeda), Phaeophyta (genus Padina, Sargassum and Tubinaria) and Phodophyta (genus Euchema, Gracillaria, Gelidium, Hypnea and Acanthopora. Seagrasses are found in all territorial waters until 25 m in depth. The seagrasses ecosystem are dominated by genus Enhalus and Thallasia. The sandy beaches are important as turtle nesting sites. The freshwater resource is quite limited, confined to Karimun Jawa (wells and mountain streams). The tidal variation is 0.92m.

  Bawean island is located in Java sea between East Java and Kalimantan; approximately 100 km from the north of East Java. The National Park is accesible by water/marine transportation (boat) or airplane.
