  Site Description
Lake Bratan is the shallowest confined lake in Bali, but yet very heavily under the pressure of recreation activities, motor boating and other outdoor ativities, hotels and restaurant. The tempel of Pura Ulun Danu (goddess of the lake) is at the lake. There are several big outboard engines for a small and shallow lake (22m deep). Some small scale agriculture is maintained around the lake. The lake was weakly stratified. The lake shows some signs of beginning eutrophication. In terms of fish, Rasbora baliensis is the only fish species endemic to Bali; apparently endemic to this site. It was only known from speciemens collected in 1929, but collections made in 1991 confirmed its continued existence in restricted parts of the lake despite the introduction of many fish species and the mussel Anodonta woodiana (Kottelat et al. 1993).
  Site Location
Lake Bratan is located at Bedugul, some 20 km south of Singaraja.
